It's that time of year again! The leaves are changing color, the air is getting cooler, and everyone is getting ready for Halloween. As you prepare your home for all the spooky festivities, we wanted to share some spooky roofing stories from our very own contractors or ones from the past. From strange noises to unexplainable appearances, these stories will be sure to give you chills. So curl up with a cup of hot cocoa, turn on the lights, and enjoy!

Halloween is just around the corner, which means it's time to get spooky! We asked our roofing contractors to share some of the most bizarre, inexplicable, and just plain eerie things that have happened to them while on the job. Check out some of their stories below, and happy Halloween!

Someone's on The Roof

The first story comes from a roofer who was working on a house in the middle of the night. He was up on the scaffolding, preparing to install some new shingles when he heard what sounded like footsteps running across the roof. He called out to see if anyone was there, but there was no answer. He shone his flashlight around but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Just as he was about to go back to work, he heard the footsteps again, this time coming closer to him. He shone his light in that direction and saw a figure darting across the roof toward him. He lost his footing and fell off the scaffolding, injuring himself badly in the process. When the police arrived, they found no one on the roof except for the injured roofer. To this day, he swears that he saw a ghost running across the roof toward him.

The Woman in White

One of our customers, who we'll call Jane, lives in a beautiful old home that was built in the 1800s. Jane had always been fascinated by her home's history and loved exploring every nook and cranny. She even started a blog where she would write about her findings.

One day, Jane was up in her attic going through some boxes when she came across an old journal. The journal was written by a woman who lived in Jane's house back in the 1800s. As Jane began to read, she was shocked to discover that the woman had died tragically in the attic—falling off the roof while hanging laundry!

Since then, Jane has seen the woman's ghost several times. She always appears near the spot where she died. Jane tries to avoid going into the attic now, but occasionally she still hears strange noises coming from up there.

The Haunting of Sarah Winchester

Sarah Winchester was the widow of gun manufacturer William Winchester. After her husband and young daughter passed away, Sarah became convinced that their deaths were caused by all of the people killed by Winchester rifles. Sarah began construction on a sprawling estate known as The Winchester Mystery House to appease the ghosts of those killed by her husband's guns.

Work on The Winchester Mystery House continued 24 hours a day for 38 years until Sarah's death in 1922. During that time, Sarah had various staircases and doors built leading to nowhere as a way to confuse and trap evil spirits inside the house.

Sarah also believed that building skyscraping towers would prevent ghosts from entering her home—so that's why there are so many odd-looking turrets in The Winchester Mystery House!

To this day, employees and visitors of The Winchester Mystery House have reported seeing ghosts, hearing strange noises, and feeling like they are being watched.
